MAKE SURE YOUR SHOTS ARE UP TO DATE. Even if you had all of your vaccinations as a child, some vaccines, such as the one protecting against tetanus, wear off. Vaccination needs also change based on age, travel plans and existing health conditions.

 

TRY IT: When you get your annual flu shot this year, ask your health care provider which other vaccines you need.

Preventive care means taking action today to lower the risk of future health problems. Here are some key steps experts recommend for every adult's preventive care plan.

1. VISIT your primary care provider for your annual checkup, screenings and shots. Also schedule regular dental and eye exams, well-woman, well-man and well-baby/child visits, and follow-up appointments with specialists.

2. MOVE MORE. A good goal for most adults is 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity exercise. On two of the days, add some muscle-strengthening exercises.
